Isaac B. (Ike) Jones, 84, of Valdosta, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012, after a period of declining health.
He was born July 7, 1928 in Quitman, a son of the late Isaac Bush Jones, Sr. and the late Stella Parker Jones. He attended Brooks County schools, and in 1947 married the love of his life, the former Evelyn Collins. The couple lived in Brooks County prior to moving to Lowndes County. Mr. Jones sold insurance for Liberty National for several years before going into auto sales, eventually starting Ike Jones Auto Sales, retiring in 1995.
For several years Mr. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church of Lake Park, and more recently of Westside Baptist Church, Valdosta. He was an avid sportsman, and especially loved fishing, the Valdosta Wildcats and Atlanta Braves.
Mr. Jones is survived by four children, Cheryl and husband Bill Mote of Port Royal, SC, I. Blaine Jones of Fernandina Beach, FL, Marilyn and husband Ronny Clanton of Nashville, TN, and Dr. Ernie and wife Terri Jones of Quitman; eight grandchildren, Bill Mote III of Blakely, Tim Mote of Valdosta, Ian Jones (Christina) of Atlanta, Justin Jones of Valdosta, Britt Jones (Haley) of Atlanta, Monique Taylor (Jon) of Nashville, TN, Derrick Jones (Anita) of Jonesboro, IL, and Jason Jones (Jessie) of Valdosta; eleven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Flowers, Betty and husband Gary Tucker, and Margaret and husband Bobby Alderman, all of Thomasville; two brothers, Edward and wife Katherine Jones of Thomasville, and Tommy Jones of Lexington, NC; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Debbie and Jerry Corbett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Collins Jones; a granddaughter, Carrie Jones; and four sisters.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Jones will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church, with Dr. Ernie Jones and Rev. Robert Dawson officiating. Interment will follow at Campground Cemetery, Morven. Mr. Jones' family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
