Irvin Rowland Roberts, 94 of Jacksonville, FL, died on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home in Jacksonville. Born on March 20, 1910 in Howell, Echols Co., GA, he was the son of the late Irvin Reason I. R. (Bud) and Lura Dorothy (Dee) Carter Roberts. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Roberts was associated with Monticello Drug Co. for 64 years. He was a Mason, a Shriner and past president of Florida State Horsemans Association and a member of Ortega Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL.
Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Jimmy Chaffin of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons, David R. Nolen (Sheila) of Jacksonville, FL, Scott S. Nolen of Washington, DC; great grandsons, Joshua P. Nolen, David G. Nolen; great granddaughter, Kayla P. Nolen; sisters, Mildred Roberts Lewis of New Orleans, LA, Ouida Roberts Pfister of Jacksonville, FL, Nataline Roberts Tharin of St. Augustine, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi Buchanan Roberts, sisters, Mary Murl Carter, Harriett Gertrude Jacobs, Lula Dorothy Kuljanich, Bertha Roberts Hobbs, Hilda Roberts Webb; a brother, Willie Fred Roberts and a grandson Patrick C. Nolen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Macedonia Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Boykin and T. S. Roberts III officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Thursday at which time the family will receive friends. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery.
