Irvin Bennett, Jr.

Irvin Bennett, Jr., 56, of Valdosta, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Holly Hill Nursing Home after a long battle with cancer.

He was born October 16, 1955 in Valdosta and graduated from Lowndes High School with the Class of 1973. For thirty years he worked for CSX Transportation and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. Irvin enjoyed his family and friends, and was a loving father, grandfather and son.

He is survived by three sons, Joshua Irvin Bennett and wife Kimberly Nicole Bennett, Joseph Orion Bennett and Shawn Jacob Bennett; two grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Bennett and Logan Cole Padgett; his mother, Eloise Bennett Taylor; and the mother of his children, Berta Bennett, all of Valdosta; several aunts, uncles, nephews and a niece also survive. He was preceded in death by his father, Irvin Bennett, Sr.; step-father, Hubert (Buddy) Taylor; a brother, Bruce A. Corbitt; and a sister, Judith Ann Edwards.

The family extends their deep gratitude to the staff of United Hospice and Holly Hill Nursing Home for the care given to Mr. Bennett.

The Graveside Service for Mr. Bennett will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 24, 2012, at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Roger Mays officiating.
