Mrs. I. Lucille Adams McKey passed away in the early morning hour of December 2, 2016 at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Robert Wilburn McKey, Sr., MD. Together they made their home in Metairie, La. for 62 years. Mrs. McKey is survived by two sons, Robert W. McKey, Jr. (Judith F. Villars); John C. McKey (Frances C. Doussan); and two daughters, Rahna L. McKey Hamilton and Sally K. McKey Dry (James R.) of Nairobi, Kenya. She is also survived by her brother, William Dock Adams of Tomball, Tx. She was the last surviving daughter at the time of her death of the late Odis H. Adams, Sr. and Sallie Lucille Dorough Adams of Cordele, Ga. She was preceded in death by 1 brother and 5 sisters. Odis, Jr., Maybeth, MaryAlice, Lavern, Crystal and Ann. She is also survived by the following grandchildren - Stephen B. Hamilton, Sally M. Hamilton Wintner (Mitch), Robert W. McKey, III, Rahna N. McKey-Carusi, PhD (Tony, PhD), Spence M. Dry, Catherine A. Dry, Converse R. Dry, Sally D. Dry, Briggs A. McKey, DDS, MS (Victoria), Ross D. McKey and twin brother Collin A. McKey. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren. Mrs. McKey was born in Cordele, Crisp County, Ga. in 1924. She graduated from East Crisp High School in 1940. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" during the latter part of World War II working in the Naval Ordinance Plant in Macon, Bibb County, Ga. She was a part of "The Greatest Generation". She married the love of her life in 1942, Robert Wilburn McKey, Sr. of Valdosta, Ga. She followed her husband to Augusta, Ga. for medical school after WWII. She then followed him to New Orleans, La., Bakersfield, Ca. and Miami, Fl. and then back to Metairie, La. where her husband set up his pediatric practice in 1954. She was a very "polished lady" and always in good spirits and a smile for everyone. She was a great homemaker who provided great old South Georgia meals throughout her life. She would always say to her children, "fix a meal and they will come". She lived for her husband, children and grandchildren always. She was a member of Munholland United Methodist Church in Metairie, La. for over 53 years. She taught Sunday school for many years in the toddler and pre-school programs. She was an active member of a homemaker's women's club called "Chez Nous" of Metairie for many years. She was the aunt by marriage to Earle S. McKey, III, Lyndle E. Thomas, William (Bud) Thomas, William C. McKey and Martha McKey Bass all of Valdosta, Ga. She leaves behind a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews from her connection to the Dorough and Adams families of Cordele, Ga. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at Carson McLane Funeral Home, 2215 Patterson St. in Valdosta, GA on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. The graveside service will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Valdosta, Ga. The McKey family would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Colonial Oaks Living Center, Metairie, La. for their kindness and care given to their mother over the past several years.
