Iris Hooker Webb

January 10, 1931 — January 23, 2015

Iris Hooker Webb, 84, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, January 23, 2015. Born in White Springs, Florida she lived in Valdosta, Georgia most of her life. She committed her life to our Lord Jesus when she was a child. In 1955, she united with Northside Baptist Church here in Valdosta, Georgia immediately becoming an active, faithful and devoted member.

Mrs. Webb was known and highly respected in Valdosta as a long distance operator for Southern Bell and the office manager and bookkeeper for Minit Food Shops, Inc. In addition, she was a gifted interior decorator, designer, and artist. Community service was also important to her. As such, Mrs. Webb served on the executive committee for area wide churches in the Valdosta Baptist Association and board of the Southern Artist League. She also traveled to South Korea on mission with the Department of Evangelism of the state of Florida. She always delighted in spending time with and cooking for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tanya Webb Wood and John P. Wood of Valdosta, Georgia, son and daughter-in-law, Benjie and Berrian Webb of Ball Ground, Georgia, and daughter, Glenda Susan Webb of Valdosta, Georgia; five grandchildren, three granddaughters-in-law and one grandson-in-law, Ben and Kelly Webb of Canton, Georgia, Brandon and Andrea Webb of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Meredith and Craig Bechtel of Franklin, Tennessee, Blake and Sarah Webb of Ball Ground, Georgia, and Anna Webb of Lawrenceville, Georgia; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jane Hooker Jenkins of Texas, Martha Hooker Harrison and Maurice A. Harrison of Lawrenceville, Georgia; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Sylvia Jean Webb Becton of Anniston, Alabama, Mary Jane Webb Davis and Phillip L. Davis of Valdosta, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ponder Lanier Webb of Valdosta, Georgia; her parents, Alpha Bennett Hooker and Charles Clarence Hooker, Sr. of Lilburn, Georgia; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ava Nell Hooker Hassell and Frank Hassell of Orlando, Florida, Carolyn Hooker Sutcliff of Tacoma, Washington and Marilyn Hooker Greene and William E. Greene, Sr. of Valdosta, Georgia; one brother, Charles Clarence Hooker, Jr. of Milton, Florida; a brother-in-law, Terry Jenkins of Atlanta, Georgia; and one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie Webb Dees and Carnett Sam Dees of Valdosta, Georgia.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Webb will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 25, 2015, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta, Georgia, with Rev. Douglas M. Reddick officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. before the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The World Hunger Fund through Northside Baptist Church, Dementia/Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
