Irene Swann Burton

Irene Swann Burton, 93, of Barney, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at her residence. She was born on October 30, 1917 in Jefferson County, Georgia to the late John William and Britie Barker Swann. Mrs. Burton was a retired school teacher from the Brooks County School System, a member of Friendship Baptist Church, the Barney Garden Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She is predeceased by her husbands, Felix Lewis Burton, Sr. and David Owen Burton.

Mrs. Burton is survived by two sons and daughters in law, Felix and Joanna Burton and John and Lou Burton, all of Barney, five grandchildren, Lisa Burton of Valdosta, Scott Burton of Barney, Jeff Burton and his wife, Rachel of Dawsonville, GA, Kelly Burton of Greenville, SC, Brian Burton and his wife, Sarah of Barney, three great grandchildren, Anna Ray Burton, Isaac Burton and Zoe Burton, all of Barney, two sisters, Madge Newsom of Jasper, GA and Nellie Noegel of Augusta, GA, one brother and sister in law, John and Crystal Swann of Wrens, GA, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also predeceased by three brothers, Horace Swann, Ernest Swann and Billy Swann and one sister, Hattie Swann Carter.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at two p. m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Barney, GA with Reverend Earl Justice officiating. She will be placed in the church at one p. m. Burial will follow in Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Tuesday at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 4131, Valdosta, GA 31604-4131.
