Irene Lott Southwell, 86, died on Monday February 18, 2008, in Richmond, Virginia. She was born in Hahira, the daughter of the late Marion Lott and Belle Hasty Lott and was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Gordon Southwell, Jr. Mrs. Southwell lived her adult life in Valdosta until she moved to Richmond in 2004. She attended Georgia State Woman's College, now Valdosta State University, and later opened Tots and Teens, a children's clothing store. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she was one of the longest living members of the Joy-Fidelis Sunday School Class. Mrs. Southwell was an avid bridge player, obtaining Life Master in duplicate bridge.
She is survived by her three children, Susan S. Smith and husband, Dick, of Richmond, Virginia, Rebecca S. Daffin, and husband, Sid, of Panama City, Florida and Wallace Gordon Southwell III and wife, Wendy, of Irmo, South Carolina, as well as seven grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Mac Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Missions Ministry, 200 W. Central Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31601, Beth Conlan Memorial Scholarship Fund, Bay High School, 1204 Harrison Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401, or one's charity of choice.
