Irene F. Scarborough

Irene F. Scarborough, 91, of Valdosta, died on Monday, March 1, 2010. She was born here in Valdosta to the late Zack & Genia Fletcher. Mrs. Scarborough grew up here before moving away to Lee, FL and then to Decatur. While in Decatur, she worked for Riches Department Store and retired from there as Head of Sales after 30 years. Following her retirement, she and her husband moved back to Valdosta in the late 1990's. Mrs. Scarborough loved her church, Faith Baptist Church. She also loved her pastors there at Faith Baptist and has held a close relationship with them for many years.

Survivors include five sisters and three brothers in law, Gloria & Etheridge Coppedge, Joyce Ruis, all of Valdosta, Nell & Ed Wilson of Hahira, Ava & Emerson Witherspoon of Valdosta and Geraldine Giddens of Lancaster, CA; a brother and sister in law, Hulon & Joann Fletcher of Valdosta and a sister in law, Sara Fletcher of Valdosta. Also surviving are a step daughter and her husband, Cecilia & Bob Mauney of Columbia, SC and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Scarborough is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil M. Scarborough; a sister, Jean Lewis; and two brothers, Dewitt Fletcher and Freeman Fletcher.

Funeral services for Mrs. Scarborough will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Dr. Gene Wisehart and Pastor Mickey Wisehart, will officiate. Burial will follow at Hickory Grove Cemetery.
