Irene Eleanor Wakefield

February 14, 1915 — October 15, 2010

Irene Eleanor Wakefield, 95, of Valdosta, died on Friday, October 15, 2010 at Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Born in Centerview, KS, to the late Edward and Mary Boyd and formerly of Stratford, TX, she had lived in this area for the past 23 years. While in Stratford, Mrs. Wakefield was active with the 4 H club as a sponsor of youth programs and as a member of the Extension Club for adult ladies. She was also active in her church as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship. Here in Valdosta she was also a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and loved playing Bridge with her friends. She was a member of First Christian Church of Valdosta.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter in law, Tommy & Nan Wakefield, of Valdosta, Lyle (Buzz) Wakefield of Huntsville, AL and Glenn W. Wakefield of Farmers Branch, TX. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas L. Wakefield, two sisters and a brother in law.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wakefield will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Michael will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
