Iona Stalvey Boyette

Iona Stalvey Boyette, 86 of Valdosta, died on Friday, February 2, 2007 at South Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness. Born in Howell, GA on August 13, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Oren and Nora Estelle Swilley Stalvey and lived in the Valdosta area most of her life. Mrs. Boyette was an active member in the Garden Club of Valdosta and earlier in her life enjoyed playing bridge with her friends. Not having any children of her own, she doted on many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She loved gardening and cooking for others. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Joy Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Boyette is survived by her devoted husband, Alva J. Boyette with whom she celebrated 67 years of marriage; three sisters-in-law, Sallie Touchton Boyette of Valdosta, Amanda Boyette Love of Alpharetta, and Audrey Hightower Stalvey of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Franklin Stalvey, sisters and brother-in-law, Irene and Burton Dampier, Mary Stalvey Webb, brothers-in-law, Harmon Boyette, Charlie Boyette, J. T. Boyette, and a sister-in-law, Alma Eason Johnson.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2007, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Phil West, Reverend Mac Weaver and Reverend Jim Schappaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
