DR. INGEBORG MARGARETE KOPPY, 85, formerly of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, <br>November 1, 2006, in San Diego, California. She was born Margarete Maria <br>Elizabet Ingeborg Horn on July 28, 1921, in Plauen, Saxony, Germany, the <br>daughter of Ewald and Else Horn. Dr. Koppy was the head of the German <br>Department at Valdosta State College from 1969 until she retired in 1980.<br><br>Starting at age 41, divorced with three children and no alimony, while <br>working at a succession of minimum-wage jobs, Ingeborg Koppy began her <br>pursuit of higher education. She graduated from Edison Junior College in <br>Fort Myers, Florida, with all A’s, received her bachelor’s degree from <br>Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton (graduating cum laude), and both <br>her master’s degree and finally her PhD. from Florida State University in <br>Tallahassee.<br><br>Survivors include son Michael Koppy and daughter-in-law Noriko Wada of San <br>Francisco, California; and son Robert Koppy of San Diego, California.<br><br>The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, <br>on Thursday, November 9, from 2:00 until 3:45. Final words and interment <br>will be at 4:00pm, at the graveside in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family <br>specifically requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions please be made <br>to the Andy Koppy Memorial Scholarship Fund, named in remembrance of Dr. <br>Koppy’s other son Andrew, who died in Vietnam at age 19, in care of the <br>Valdosta State University Foundation, 1500 North Patterson Street, Valdosta <br>31698.
