Ima Rose Fouraker Carter, 86, of Old Clyattville died August 10, 2015, at Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Echols County on September 20, 1928, to the late Ichabod and Verdie Rhoden Fouraker.
Mrs. Carter was a wife, homemaker, mother, and a teacher's aide at Clyattville Elementary School during the 1970's. A woman of great faith and prayer, Mrs. Carter was raised in the Primitive Baptist faith and raised her family in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of The Barn, a home church founded by Russell and Beth Bland, and she attended First United Methodist Church in Valdosta.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Sue Carter Moore and husband William Howard, of Lake Park, and Rebecca Rose Carter Hitchcock and husband, Michael Keith of Old Clyattville; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Golden Carter of Crawfordville, FL; grandchildren and their spouses, James Edward Moore and Avery Davis-Roberts of Stockbridge, Audra Rose Carter Place and Charles Henry of Crawfordville, FL, John Alton Carter, of Crawfordville, FL, Mary Kate Hitchcock of Lake Park, Hannah Carter Hitchcock of Valdosta, Brenda Moore Jarrett of Moultrie and David Howard Moore of Valdosta; great-grandchildren, Lia Rose Place, Zane Augustus Moore and Timothy Charles Place; sisters, Ruby Morgan of White Springs, FL; Mae Agner of Madison, FL; Dalceda Roberts of Valdosta, and Bashie Copeland of Lake Park; brothers and their spouses, Bill and Patty Fourakres of Pinetta, FL, Ichabod and Betty Fourakers of Valdosta; sister-in-law Flora Fouraker of Lakeland, and scores of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Rufus Carter, Sr.; two sons, John Rufus "J.R." Carter, Jr. and Timothy Claude Carter; brothers, Riley Fouraker and Owen Fouraker; sisters, Vashi Touchton and Louelle Jackson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carter will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Reverend Lester Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Unity Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before service time.
