Ilah Horne Carter, 89, of Valdosta, died Friday, June 6, 2008 at Langdale Hospice in Valdosta. She was born in Lowndes County on April 16, 1919, a daughter of the late Bert E. and Pearl Knight Horne. She was a member of the Cat Creek Primative Baptist Church. She served as a member of the South Georgia Medical Center Auxiliary Volunteers for 20 years.
Survivors include a son & daughter in law, Robert W. Carter(Shann), Griffin; daughter & son in law, Jean C. Mackie (Ervin), Valdosta; son & daughter in law, Tommy Carter (Kay), Valdosta; six grandchildren, Gina Greenway, Eric Mackie, Tara Mackie, Trevor Carter, Brian Carter, Kellie Wright and five great grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth Mote Herring, Valdosta. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Carter, brothers, Malcom, Mayo, Loran Horne, sister, Gladys Sutton Waters, two special nephews, Jackie and Joyce Horne.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, June 9, 2008 at the Cat Creek Primative Baptist Church with the Elder Jim Sandlin and Elder Bob Dickerson officiating. She will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cat Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
