I.J. "Buddy" Cargile, Jr., 85, of Clyattville, passed away Sunday, December 18, 2011, at the Presbyterian Home, Quitman.
He was born November 18, 1926 in Douglas, a son of the late I.J. and Rosa Belle Lupo Cargile. Buddy was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, and retired as Maintenance Supervisor at Owens-Illinois Paper Mill after thirty years. He was of the Baptist faith, and was involved in the Explorer Scouts, had served as a Valdosta City Councilman, and was involved in many other community affairs. He loved his grandchildren, and enjoyed farming, scuba diving and animals.
He is survived by one daughter, Barbara C. Creasy of Lake Park; two sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh and Phyllis Cargile of Clyattville and Jerry and Beth Cargile of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Casey Cargile of Greenville, SC, Hugh Buck Cargile and wife Melissa of Valdosta, Ashley Folsom and husband Matthew of Aiken, SC, and Zachary Cargile and wife Nicole of Simpsonville, SC; three great-grandchildren, Hailey Cargile, Bailey Folsom and Hunter Cargile; two brothers, Bill Cargile of Valdosta and Eugene Cargile and wife Eddie of Loga Vista, TX; one brother-in-law, G.W. Keeling of Pinetta, FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Theta Alena Stone Cargile; and two sisters, Jonnie Keeling and Verna Chambless.
Funeral Services for Mr. Cargile will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Henry Cannington, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
