Hurschel John Burleigh, Jr.

Hurschel John Burleigh, Jr. 65, of Valdosta died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born in Eldorado, Arkansas on June 22, 1946 to Hurschel John Burleigh, Sr. and the late Ruby Marie McMurrian Burleigh. Mr. Burleigh was retired from the United States Air Force and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. He enjoyed being with family and working in his yard. Mr. Burleigh played football at Hahnville High School in Hahnville, Louisiana and graduated from Valdosta State College. His favorite saying was "if you can't do it right the first time, don't do it at all."

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Barrett Burleigh, two daughters and a son in law, Catherine Lydia and Larry Dean, Belenda Anne Burleigh, one son, Michael Eric Paul Burleigh all of Valdosta, three grandchildren, Christopher (Paula) Burleigh, Clifford Hiers, Jr. and Alan Michael Hiers all of Valdosta, his great granddaughter, Katlynn Lorene Burleigh of Hahira, his father, Hurschel John Burleigh, Sr. of Luling, LA., one brother and sister in law, Richard Francis and Kay Burleigh of Pine Bluff, AR., three sisters and brothers in law, Mary Ann and Randy L. Plattsmier of Des Allemands, LA., Sinie Marie and Bob LaCour of St. Louis, MO., Leigh Ann and Wes Smith of Dallas, TX., numerous nieces and nephews, his mother in law, Effie Lee Barrett of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Marvin LeFrois officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
