Hugh S. Blanton Jr.

HUGH S. BLANTON, JR., 83, of Valdosta died Friday, October 15, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Blanton was born on July 11, 1921 in Stockton to the late Hugh S. and Vallye Z. Strickland Blanton and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mr. Blanton was a graduate of Valdosta High School and attended the University of Georgia. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he was past president of the Scrap Iron Sunday School Class and had also served as past president of the Whitewater Hunting and Fishing Club. Mr. Blanton owned and operated Hugh Blanton Auto Parts in Valdosta for many years.

Survivors include two daughters and son in law, Donna and Roy Cannon of Atlanta, Sandra Gail Jordan of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Ronnie and Bebo Blanton of Valdosta, his grandchildren, Gary Cannon and his wife, Tracy of Valdosta, Kellee King and her husband, Paul of Atlanta, Jessica Ann Jordan, David Lee Jordan, Jr. and Maggie Frances Jordan all of Valdosta, four great grandchildren, Anne Rankin Cannon, Gary Neil Cannon, Jr., Cannon Lane Lee and Mason Blanton King. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite Norton Blanton, a son, Barry Neil Blanton and three brothers, Louie Sloan Blanton, Robert Mose Blanton and Donaldson Blanton.

Funeral services will be held at 11am, Monday, October 18, 2004 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5-7pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Langdale Place c/o South Georgia Medical Center Foundation.
