Hugh M. Childree

Hugh M. Childree, 88, died on Monday, September 11, 2006 after a short illness. Born on August 10, 1918, in Reynolds, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Jennings and Jeffie Windham Childree. A TSGT in the U.S. Army, Mr. Childree fought in the Pacific for 4 years during WWII with the 158th Regimental Combat Team (Bushmasters). He was associated with Georgia Power for 35 years. A member of Northside Baptist Church since 1956, he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and on the Building Committee. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.

Survivors are his wife of 61 years, Tibbie M. “Pat” Owens Childree; three sons, Wayne Childree and Mardi of Jacksonville, Florida, Gary Childree and Phyllis of Valdosta, Rodney Childree of Valdosta, one daughter, Judy Childree of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Angie Childree of Augusta, Ansley Childree, Keith Childree, Parker Childree and Jamie Childree all of Valdosta, Maj. Glen Sigley and Wendy of Belgium; five great grandchildren, Evan Harrison, James Childree and Angel Childree of Augusta, Chase Sibley and Dawson Sigley both of Belgium; two brothers, Ed Childree and Marjorie of Albany, Quinton Childree and Frances of Warner Robins; eight sisters, Sue Crook of Macon, Vetra Brown of Oglethorpe, Lois Townsend of Warner Robins, Leila Dent and B. R. of Reynolds, Cathy Pye and Harmon of Macon, Earline Poole of Austell, Louise Creasy and John of Fayetteville, Verna Taunton and Tom of Butler. Mr. Childree was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil Childree.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2006, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend Douglas Reddick and Reverend Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
