Howard S. Hall, Jr., 84, of Valdosta died Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Langdale Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on August 24, 1924 in Valdosta to the late Howard, Sr. and Sula T. Hall and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. Mr. Hall was a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church. He retired from the U. S. Postal Service after thirty three years and later served as Postmaster at Valdosta State University for thirteen years. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Hall had a great love for his wife, children and family and enjoyed making people laugh. His positive friendly servant spirit had an effect on all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of sixty two years, Betty T. Hall of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Deborah and Bruce Bunner of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Stan and Dana Hall of Oxford. He was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, Howard (Sarah) Dugger of Fairfax, Calif. and Maurie Dugger of Washington, DC., two great grandchildren, Maisie Dugger and Tegan Dugger both of Fairfax, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 3pm, Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Dr. Ken Alford and Rev. Charlie Scarbrough officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5pm until 7pm at the funeral home.
