Howard Rudolph Gay

Howard R. Gay, 77, of Barney, died Monday, November 7, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta. He was born in Colquitt County, GA on April 25, 1934 to the late Simp and Ruth Blalock Gay. Mr. Gay was retired from the United States Air Force, was a retired Brooks County school bus driver and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

He is survived by his wife of fifty six years, Mary Elverta Gay of Barney, two sons and daughters in law, Randy and Debi Gay of Dallas, TX and Ricky and Donna Gay of Quitman, one daughter and son in law, Sharon and David Graham of Barney, two grandsons, Ben Graham and his wife, Wendy of Valdosta and Andy Gay and his wife, Kirby of Hahira, two granddaughters, Brandi Gay of Garland, TX and Haley Gay of Savannah, GA, two great granddaughters, Lyndi Bryan of Garland, TX and Payden Graham of Valdosta, one great grandson, Parker Gay of Hahira, three brothers and two sisters in law, Lamar and Dolly Gay of Moultrie, Gene and Nell Gay of Barney, Jimmy Gay of Mankato, MN, two sisters and brothers in law, Patsy and Frank Asbell of Graceville, FL and Vicki and Wes Williams of Kingsland, GA, sisters in law and brothers in law, Willie and Bill Cordell of Tavares, FL, Wendell Burgess of Thomasville and Franklin and Linda Burgess of Lake Park. Mr. Gay is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister in law, Franklin Gay and Jim and Marzella Gay, one sister and brother in law, Lorene and Ned Edwards and sister in law, Brenda Burgess.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12, 2011 at ten a. m. at Friendship Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Justice officiating. Burial will follow at Campground Cemetery. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Friday at the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Friendship Baptist Church specifying your favorite mission project.
