Horace Warren Bates

Horace Warren Bates, 62, of Jennings, FL, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Shands at the University of Florida, Gainesville, after a short illness.

Horace was born May 31, 1948 in Jennings, FL, a son of the late Ben Bates, Sr. and Mary Edna Scaff Bates. He was a lifelong Jennings resident and operated the Bates family farm with his family. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by one son, Shawn Corbett and wife Robin of Americus, GA; two daughters, Kasi Nelson and husband Gene of Lake City, FL, and Renee Bates of Lake City, FL; five grandchildren, Katelyn, Christian and Cason Corbett, Kadence Bates-Rogers and Cara Nelson; two sisters, Charlene Mikell and husband John of Palatka, FL, Teddy Nichols and husband Art of Palatka, FL; two brothers, Ben Bates, Jr. and wife Kathi of Palatka, FL, and Jim Bates and wife Lynda of Jennings, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service for Mr. Bates will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Jennings, FL, with Rev. Ted Sauls officiating. Interment will follow in Sasser Landing Cemetery. Mr. Bates' family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, Lake Park, GA.
