Hoke Vaughn, 56, of Valdosta, died suddenly on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Born in Orlando, Florida, on May 4, 1953, he had made his home in Valdosta since 1960. A 1971 graduate of Valdosta High School, he began operating the family business, Vaughn Battery and Alternator Co., following his father's death in 1979. Mr. Vaughn was meticulous in operating his business with his long time employees. He loved his family and was devoted to them. He worked with and cared for his mother for many years. He loved working on projects and building beautiful things in his yard and around his home. He enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
Survivors are his mother, Doris Vaughn of Valdosta, his partner, Carl Fender of Valdosta; his sisters, Becky Herndon of Valdosta, Julia Vaughn of Atlanta; brother and sister in law, Fred and Susan Vaughn of Watkinsville, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Dorothy Reber of What Cheer, Iowa. Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by his father, Hoke Smith Vaughn, Sr.
Memorial services will be held at Christ The King Episcopal Church on Saturday, November 7, 2009, at 3 p.m. Reverend Stan White will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Muscular Dystrophy Association. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
