Hiram Ray Daniels, 68, died December 9, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, FL after a very brief illness. Mr. Daniels had a long and distinguished career as a pharmacist and was employed at the CVS pharmacy in Temple Terrace, FL. He deeply enjoyed his work. His co-workers and customers were like family to him. He began his career in Atlanta and Lexington, KY before moving to Tampa Bay in 1977. During the years that followed, he worked for Rite Aid, Eckerd and CVS until his attempt at retirement earlier this year. He continued to work at CVS part-time. He was a devoted Christian and member of Idlewild Baptist Church. Mr. Daniels considered his Sunday school class a powerful spiritual support system.
Mr. Daniels was born and raised in Statenville, GA. He remained closely connected to his hometown throughout his life. He loved to return to the Statenville Baptist Church and to spend time on his family's farm. A 1962 graduate of Echols County High, he attended Valdosta State College and transferred to the University of Georgia where he earned a B.S. in Pharmacy.
Mr. Daniels love for his work was second only to his love for his family. He provided unconditional love and support to all his family. He was known and loved by all for his sense of humor, quick wit, kind heart and gentle spirit.
He is survived by son Hiram Ray Daniels, Jr., daughter Christina Daniels Merrild, son-in law Ulrik Merrild, beloved grandsons Nicolai and Lukas Merrild, his wife Deborah Tamargo and his stepson Raymond Tamargo, all of Tampa. Additional survivors include his dear sisters Carolyn Daniels Howard (Jimmy) and Cathryn Daniels Smith of Columbus, GA; Patricia Daniels Cox of Statenville, GA; brother, Dr. David Benjamin Daniels, Jr. (Cyndi) of Miami, FL; cousin David Wallace Herndon, Jr of Kennesaw, GA; first wife and mother of his children, Marcia Moseley Daniels; ten nieces and nephews and many other family members and friends. His beloved parents, Eula Herndon Daniels and David Benjamin Daniels, Sr., preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be nephews James Wesley Howard, Jr. of Newnan, Ga.; Hilton Eugene Smith, Jr. and Timothy Andrew Smith of Columbus, GA; Dr. David Benjamin Daniels, III of Birmingham, AL; Gregory Dozier Cox of Sharpsburg, GA; and cousin David Wallace Herndon, Jr. of Kennesaw, GA.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, December 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Carson McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta, GA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 15 at 2:00 at Statenville Baptist Church in Statenville, GA with graveside services immediately following.
