Hilda Simpson Lammons, 75, of Quitman, died at her home on Sunday, May 1, 2016, after a lengthy illness. Born in Howell, Georgia on August 6, 1940, she was a daughter of the late William Roy Simpson and Grace Cowart Simpson. Hilda was a Church of God Minister and member of the Quitman Church of God. As a child, Hilda moved to St. George, Georgia with her family, where she graduated from High School in 1959. She then attended Berry College in Rome. In the 1970's Hilda worked for Gulf Life Insurance in Jacksonville, Florida where she met and married Steve Lammons. While attending Macclenny Church of God the Lammons felt the call to go forth and serve the Lord in the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. They lived out West and served the Lord through a primary children's ministry for twenty years before returning to Georgia in the 1990's. Over the years Hilda ministered through Christian Education and the Salvation Army. She cared for her husband, Steve, until his death in 2007.
Survivors are her son, William Warren Privett, daughter, Betty Woodward, grandchildren, Kimberley Lammons, Zoe Lammons, Zachary Lammons all of Quitman; sisters and brother in law, Liz Cothron of Valdosta, Wilahmena and Johnny Lauramore of Macclenny, Florida; numerous brothers in law, sisters in law and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at Mt. Zion Church Cemetery. Pastor Gwin Jarriel will officiate. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home from 11:30 until 12:30 on Wednesday prior to the service. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
