Henry Stanley Rogers, 89, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at Lakeland Villa in Lakeland, following a lengthy illness. A lifelong resident of Valdosta, he was born to the late L. J. (Buck) & Mamie Smith Rogers on October 20, 1915. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, having served in the South Pacific, including at the Battle of Okinawa during World War II. Mr. Rogers was a retired painting contractor, a member of Ousley Baptist Church and the VFW.
Survivors are his wife, Mary Louise Geiger Rogers of Valdosta; daughters and sons in law, Cuba and Paul Parrish of Valdosta, Tenya and Gordon Shaw of Valdosta, Marla and Jerry Singletary of Alphretta; a son, DeWayne Rogers of Valdosta; eleven grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; brothers, T. D. Rogers and L. Freeman Rogers of Valdosta; sister, Alwilda DeCesare of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Rogers is preceded in death by a brother James Lanier (Doc) Rogers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 9, 2005, in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Dillard Ensley officiating. Burial will follow at Nashville Memorial Gardens in Nashville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center, 888 W.
