Henry Ronald (Ron) Wetherington, 77, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at Shands Hospital at University of Florida in Gainesville. Born in Adel on August 14, 1934, he was the son of the late Moses Clinton Wetherington, Sr., and Vera Taylor Wetherington. Ron was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Florida State University where he played football for the Wildcats and the Seminoles. He was associated with Liberty National Insurance and Astro Extermination Services.
Survivors are his wife, Hazel H. Wetherington of Valdosta; daughter, Lovelle W. Martin of Valdosta, step daughters and step sons-in-law, Chrystle and Mike Ross of Tifton, Patty and David Childers of Cordele, step son and step daughter-in-law, Mike and Evelyn McDonald of Valdosta; grandchildren, Liska Lovelle and Joe McKinnon, J. Ryce and Amanda Martin, Henry Ronald III and Lanisha Wetherington, Megan Nichole and Jason McDonald, Ashley Renee Wetherington, Crystal McDonald, April and Don Faircloth, Sunny Ross, Marla Ross, Kasey Childers, Kayla Childers; eleven great grandchildren, brothers, Charles and Christine Wetherington of Valdosta, Remer and Maxine Wetherington of Valdosta, Roy and Brenda Wetherington of Tifton. He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Ronald Wetherington, Jr., sister, Evelyn Wilson and brother, M.C. Wetherington.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Reverend Hale Bishop and Reverend David Tart will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
