Henry Norman Cone

Henry Norman Cone, 81, of Valdosta died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his home on the Madison Highway. He was born on February 8, 1933 to the late Jessie Dallas and Olivia Hampton Cone. Mr. Cone was preceded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 48 years, Cassie Morris Cone.

He is survived by his two children and their spouses, Cathy and Bill Malone of Valdosta and Gary and Sylvia Cone of Jennings, FL; five grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Jennifer Malone of Valdosta; Marcus Henry Malone of Spanish Fort, AL; Dusty and Lydia Cone of Lake Park, GA; Danielle and Kyle Hall, Ethan and Anna Cone, all of Jennings, FL; four great grandchildren, Karli and Kherington Malone of Valdosta; Colton and Braxton Hall of Jennings, FL; one brother and sister- in- law, Kelly and Ingrid Cone of Kinston, AL; one sister, Patsy Turner of Valdosta; sisters-in-law, Juanita Johnson of Valdosta and Joyce Morris of Bayonet Point, FL; brother- in- law and sister- in- law, Al and Joyce Morris of Bristol, VA; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Cone and J. D. Cone of Valdosta and Talmadge Cone of Waverly, TN.

After graduating from Clyattville High School in 1951, Mr. Cone served his country in the United States Air Force. During the Korean War, he was awarded two Bronze Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He later earned an electrical engineering degree and was employed for over 47 years as an electrical engineer, supervisor, and instructor in both the Electrical and Instrument Department and Process Control Department of Packaging Corporation of America.

Compassionate and caring, he was known for his gentleness, vibrant smile, positive attitude, and servant heart. He enjoyed farming and farm animals. As a master woodworker, he built both his own homes and crafted furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed restoring classic cars and tractors.

Mr. Cone loved the Lord and was baptized into Christ in 1956. He was a member of the Airport Church of Christ where he served as a Men's Bible Class Teacher.


Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, May 25, 2014 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6-8PM at the funeral home.
