Henry Earl Stubbs

Earl Stubbs, 72, of Brooks County, died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at South Georgia Medical Center after a sudden illness. His parents are the late William Henry and Mattie Lee Hogg Stubbs. Mr. Stubbs was an active member of Charity Baptist Church. He was born and grew up on his family farm in Buena Vista, GA (Marion County) where he learned about agriculture and hard work. Mr. Stubbs loved his work and worked for the Southern Railway and later Norfolk Southern Railway for forty years. He moved to Valdosta as a freight agent for the railroad in 1966. He loved woodworking, making cabinets and furniture and playing the guitar. Mr. Stubbs loved ministering to others with the skill of his hands. He also loved working with animals and his garden on his farm. Mr. Stubbs loved his family. He was there for them and cared for them, especially his grandchildren.

Mr. Stubbs is survived by his wife of forty eight years, Peggy Redish Stubbs of Brooks County; one son, Tim Stubbs of Brooks County; two daughters and one son in law, Melinda Bass of Valdosta and Tonya & Greg Stalvey of Hahira; three granddaughters, Madison Stalvey, Abbi Stalvey and Elli Stalvey all of Hahira. Also surviving are a sister and brother in law, Margaret and Howard Azevedo of Kaneohe, HI; a brother, Edward Stubbs of Mableton; a brother and sister in law, Charles and Viola Stubbs of Saucier, MS; a sister in law, Margie Redish of Valdosta; a sister in law, Vivian Rudolph of Todd, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Carlton Stubbs.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Lee Graham, Dr. Clyde Stokes and Pastor Tom Studstill officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
