Henry B. Cannington, Sr.

November 8, 1936 — November 3, 2005

Henry B. Cannington, Sr. MSGT (RET), 68 of Valdosta died on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at South Georgia Medical Center. Born on November 8, 1936 in Tampa, FL, he was the son of the late Mitchell Buie and Bessie Collins Cannington. He retired from the United States Air Force after 21 years of service. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught at Lowndes High School and at Valdosta High School, retiring from teaching in 1991. Mr. Cannington was a member of Francis Lake Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife, Susan Bridges Cannington of Valdosta; children and their spouses, Henry B., Jr. and Ann Cannington of Valdosta, Teresa and Mike Mehaffey of Midland, Tammy and Barry Bryant of Valdosta; step children, Catherine and Stuart Moore of Valdosta, Howard and Dawn Slocumb of Homerville; grandchildren, Carrie C. Dampier and her husband, Jarret, Ashley C. Carter and her husband Chad, all of Valdosta, Michael an Ciara Mehaffey of Midland, Randy and Holly Bryant, David and Stephen Moore all of Valdosta; great granddaughter, Gracie Dampier of Valdosta; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Ken Watkins of Rutherfordton, NC; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Brenda Cannington of Valdosta, Elzie and Lelia Cannington of Bainbridge; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Jane and Earl Wetherington, Benita and Dick Hall and nephews, Rusty and Bill Wetherington.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Eldridge Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to Hospice of South Georgia for the Langdale Hospice House, the Pearlman Cancer Center, or the Francis Lake Baptist Church Building Fund.
