Helen Scott Morris, 79, of Valdosta, died suddenly at her home on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, following a period of declining health. Born in Hahira to the late Calvin & Thelma Cowart Scott, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Morris was a graduate of Valdosta High School where she participated in the Glee Club and in Literary activities. She loved her Lord Jesus and she loved to serve Him in her church. She was a charter member of Clyattville Baptist Church where she was the Music Director for 20 years. She taught Sunday School for over 50 years, most recently at Benevolence Baptist Church having stopped due to helath concerns only a couple of months ago. Mrs. Morris was an excellent cook and she was dedicated to loving and serving her family throughout her life.
Survivors are her husband of 61 years, James C. Morris of Valdosta, daughters and sons in law, Connie and Ronnie Williams of Valdosta, Vicki and Allen Crump of Valdosta, Julie and David Chotiner of Mills River, North Carolina; son and daughter in law, Ben and Lisa Morris of Valdosta; grandchildren, Ron Williams of Valdosta, Beth (Brian) Payne of Albany, Ann Stalvey, Jason (Meraris) Morris, Jared Morris, Elena Strickland all of Valdosta of Valdosta, Jared Morris, Elena Strickland both of Valdosta, Natalie Helen Chotiner, Jessica Yetta Chotiner of Mills River, North Carolina; eight great grandchildren, Steven Russell, Shad Mays, Hunter Reed, Jamie Stalvey, Katia Strickland, Halia Strickland, Luke Morris, Conrad Morris; and her beloved dog, Blackie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Reverend David Paulk and Reverend Earl Justice will officiate. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to a favorite charity.
