Helen Snedden Marr, 82, of Kearny died March 11, 2013 at the Fellowship Home in Valdosta. Visiting will be on Thursday from 5 until 9 pm at the Armitage and Wiggins Funeral Home 596 Belgrove Drive, Kearny. The funeral service will take place on Friday at 12 noon in The Grace United Methodist Church and burial will follow at Arlington Cemetery. Born in Kearny, N.J. on August 3, 1930 to George and Isabel Carlton, Scottish Immigrants, she graduated from North Arlington High School in 1947. As a young woman she worked at Carlton Travel Agency in Kearny, which was her father's business. She later worked as a secretary for the Kearny Fire Department, then as an administrative assistant with The State of N.J. Department of the Treasure in the Inheritance Tax Division. She lived the last eight years in Valdosta, where she was affectionately known as Grandma Helen.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Choir and Harmony Circle. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed good food, socializing, attending Metropolitan Operas, Broadway Plays and she loved traveling on cruises. She had a warm spirit that was very contagious and had a great sense of humor.
She is survived by her son Carlton Marr and his wife Jean, daughter Isabelle Brannon and her husband Ron and her son Gordon Marr. Grandmother to five, Jessica Marr, Christina, Cassandra, Caroline and Charlotte Brannon. Best friend and special family friend Margaret Schoendorf.
