Helen (Peg) Griffis Cantrell Northcutt

Helen "Peg" Griffis Cantrell Northcutt passed away at Langdale Hospice House on December 12, 2013 after a lengthy illness. Ms. Northcutt was a retired hair stylist, having owned Cantrell's Guys and Dolls here in Valdosta. Ms. Northcutt had been a resident at Fellowship Home at Brookside. She loved her family dearly, and enjoyed shopping, music, dancing, and her pets.

She was born on November 21, 1926 to the late Barney D. Griffis, Sr. and Ruth Howell Griffis of Valdosta. She is preceded in death by her ex-husband and father of her children Robert Cantrell and her husband Charles Northcutt, four brothers: Paul Griffis, Barney Griffis Jr., Bobby Griffis, and Don Griffis, one sister: Marie Griffis Peck, and one grandchild: Jody Cantrell.

Surviving her are: her daughter Brenda Cantrell Weir and her husband Jim Weir of Viera, Florida, her son Michael Cantrell and his wife Cecilia Palacios Cantrell of Houston, Texas, and her son Brett Cantrell and his wife Debi Voltz Cantrell of Valdosta, Georgia, 6 grandchildren: Heather Weir Senger and husband John, Stephanie Melgar, Louis Melgar, Micaiah Cantrell Barajas, B. Shaun Cantrell, II and wife Allison, and Erin Cantrell Mullis and husband Mark, 9 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, 1 sister-in-law: Lucy Griffis of Hahira, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Ben Hogan and his staff, Fellowship Home, Langdale Hospice House, and everyone who has been so kind during this time.

A graveside service for Mrs. Northcutt will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 16, 2013, at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
