Helen Melinda Janney Rogero, 97, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, March 10, 2013. Born on February 27, 1916 in Roanoke, AL to the late George W. and Lula Lane Janney, she was raised in Warwick, Worth County, before moving with her family to Macon, when she was 16 years old. Mrs. Rogero married her husband of 65 years, the late William Henry Rogero on September 10, 1938 in Macon, GA. The family moved to Valdosta in 1949, when Mr. Rogero was transferred by the C&S Bank.
Mrs. Rogero accepted Christ as her personal Savior when she was 12 years old. Her life was completely dedicated to Jesus as demonstrated by her service to Him throughout her life and by her loving and gentle spirit. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church for 64 years, serving in a number of capacities over the years. She participated as an active member of the Valdosta Junior High School Parent Teacher Organization, serving a term as secretary. She was also the Grey Lady (school nurse) at the Junior High for thirteen years.
A fantastic cook, Mrs. Rogero was renowned for her wonderful pound cakes, pecan pies, cinnamon crisps, plum cakes and other goodies which she generously gave to family and innumerable friends and loved ones over the years. She was the very definition of a Christian and will be greatly missed. Her sweet, generous spirit was treasured by her family and gained her many friends throughout the years.
