Helen James Clark, 93, of Valdosta died on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at her home. She was born in Thomasville on February 6, 1928 to the late Edwin Kenneth and Louise Powell James and had lived in Valdosta for many years. Mrs. Clark was an active member and worker of Northside Baptist Church where she served on the visitation GROW team, Kingdom Kings volunteer since 2014, WMU/WOM, Mission Committer, SHOPPE (Sister Hood of Purpose Prayer Encouragement), Historical Committee, AWANA, Secretary for Sunday School, taught Sunday School and involved in many Bible Study Groups. Mrs. Clark retired as a School Psychologist with the Valdosta City School System. She volunteered her time with many organizations. Mrs. Clark faithfully served on the LARC Board of Directors for 21 years. She constantly praised LARC for assisting her family, which allowed her to pursue her education and career. LARC has never had a more vocal advocate or positive Board member. She chaired the Social Committee and easily rallied others to assist her serving refreshments at large gatherings. Mrs. Clark also served as a volunteer with Hospice of South Georgia from March 1998-March 2020 earning more than 600 hours.
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Beth and John O’Neal of Midway, FL; three sons and daughters in law, Bill Clark, Jr. of Valdosta, Bob and Lisa Clark of Covington, GA, Brett and Allison Clark of Jacksonville, FL, Deb Clark of La Marque, TX; eight grandchildren, 14-great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Ellis of Aurora, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Vareen Clark; a son, David Clark; a grandson, Alan Clark; a granddaughter, Kay O’Neal Davis and a sister, Mary Griffin.
Funeral services will be held at 10am, Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Northside Baptist Church with Dr. Robby Foster, Dr. Gary Woods and Rev. Bob Willis officiating. Burial to follow in the Boston City Cemetery in Boston, GA. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 25, 2021 from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
