Helen Clyde Thomas Joyner
Helen Clyde Thomas Joyner, of Valdosta, died in Atlanta on Monday, January 9, 2012 after several years of declining health. Clyde was born in Pensacola, Florida on September 26, 1915 to Wylie Lawton Thomas and Helen Larue Brown Thomas. She moved to Valdosta in 1918 after the death of her father. A graduate of Valdosta High School, Clyde married Charles C. "Charlie" Joyner on August 18, 1940. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and active in her Sunday school class and circle.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, a sister, Frances Thomas McLaughlin, and two brothers, Albert S. Pendleton, Jr. and William F."Billy" Pendleton.
Survivors are her son, Charles A. Joyner and his wife Bebe of Clarkston, two grandsons, Billy Joyner of Washington, D.C. and David Joyner and his wife Rebecca of Cambridge, Massachusetts, and two great grand daughters, Delia and Annabelle; sisters in law, Lonie Pendleton and Virginia Pendleton Bennett both of Valdosta and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bob Moon will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either the First United Methodist Church or to the Valdosta Historical Society.
