Hazel Sowell Black

January 13, 1928 — July 11, 2013

Hazel Sowell Black, 85, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, July 11, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Born in Dade County, Florida on January 13, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Vera Cleveland Sowell. A homemaker, Mrs. Black was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late John Black.
Survivors are a son and daughter in law, Robert A. and Gloria Black of Valdosta, daughter and son in law, Frances and "Bo" Glisson of Key Stone Heights, Florida, daughter, Lisa Wisenbaker of Valdosta, son, Eddie Black of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Hilda and Vernon Tillman of Gulf Port, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Elizabeth Black and a son, William Franklin Black.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 11:00 o'cock a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Reverend Ferrell Morris will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
