Hazel Rentz

Hazel Rentz, 85, of Lake Park, died on Thursday, November 26, 2009 after a sudden illness. Born in Valdosta, in 1924 to the late Lee & Eva Wisenbaker Townsend, she had been a lifelong resident of this area. A 1942 graduate of Valdosta High School, she went on to work for over 20 years at Levi Strauss before retirement. Mrs. Rentz also was very active in her community of Lake Park and served as assistant City Clerk from 1987 until 2002. She loved to sew and she sewed many items such as clothing and quits for family and friends. She was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and followed them closely. She loved spending the summers watching and enjoying her grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters and sons in law, Jo & Don Jordan of Hahira, Mary Jane & Doug Galloway of Valdosta, and Polly & Phil Corte of Port Charlotte, FL; eight grandchildren, Lee (Frankie) Barker of Brooks County, Denise (Darryl) Sloan of Valdosta, Gregg (Lee) Brown of Jennings, Kristen Rentz and Melissa Rentz, both of Charleston, SC, Brad (Heather) Rentz of Camp Lejeune, NC, Erin (David) Thompson of Hahira, and B.J. Jordan of Valdosta. Also surviving are nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A daughter, Eva Taylor and a son Glen Rentz, and six brothers and sisters precede Mrs. Rentz in death.

Funeral services for Mrs. Rentz will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2009 at McLane Lakewood Funeral Home in Lake Park. Mr. Evans McMullen and Mr. Marvin Greene will officiate. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Lake Park this afternoon, Sunday, November 29, 2009 from 4 until 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Raintree Village Children's Home, 3757 Johnston Road, Valdosta, GA 31601.
