Hazel Mae Pollard, 89, of Valdosta died on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at South Georgia Medical Center following a short illness. She was born in Valdosta on May 18, 1921 to the late Andrew J. and Mary Anne Driscoll Pollard and has been a resident of this area her entire life. She attended the Valdosta City Schools and was a graduate of the Georgia Florida Commercial College. She was employed with the Valdosta Daily Times for 38 years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Catholic Woman’s Club as well as the Magnolia Garden Club.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Sarah C. Pollard of Dade City, Florida; nieces, Marilyn Christensen of Mount Rest, North Carolina, and Betty Jean Wilson of Dade City, Florida; nephew, James E. Pollard of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; close friend, Mary George and family of Lake Park. She was preceded in death by sisters, Marion Pollard Grimes and Helen Pollard, and five brothers, Harold, Earle, Francis, Charles and Roy Pollard.
Funeral services for Hazel Mae Pollard will be held at 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Marvin Lefrois and Father Dan O’Connell officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. A rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday evening with the family receiving friends until 8 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
