Hazel S. Carpenter, 88, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, January 14, 2006, at Brooks County Hospital in Quitman. Born on May 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Starling and Hattie Mae Brooks Swanson. Formerly of Birmingham she had made her home in Valdosta for the past 22 years where she had been a resident of Azalea Towers.Mrs. Carpenter was a foster grandparent for the Valdosta City Schools and she was a Presbyterian.
Survivors are her daughters and son in law, Kay and Bob Bolton of Valdosta, Linda Wilkins of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, a son and daughter in law, Frank L. Jr., and Carole Carpenter of Birmingham, Alabama; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; brothers and sisters in law, Mac and Glenda Swanson of Clayton, Don and Stella Swanson of Dayton, Ohio; sister and brother in law, Mary and Raymond Evans of Birmingham, Alabama; numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, Frank L. Carpenter, Sr., a son in law, Lyndon Wilkins, a brother, Ralph Swanson, and a sister, Inez Purcell.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Forest Crest Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. Condolences may be conveyed at www.mclanefuneralservices.com.
