Hazel Devane Hendley

August 15, 1927 — March 3, 2017

Hazel Devane Hendley, 89, of Valdosta died on Friday, March 3, 2017 at Langdale Hospice House following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 15, 1927 in Pavo, Georgia to the late Sam and Flonnie Mae Griffin Musselwhite.

She worked for Levi Strauss in Valdosta until the plant closed and was a homemaker. She was the mother of 10 children and her children were her life. Her main goal was taking care of them, both physically and spiritually, and supporting and encouraging their life's endeavors. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Shelby Jean Brinson of Birmingham, Alabama; a son, Raymond Donald Devane of Valdosta; four daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Dennis Nichols of Valdosta, Ruth Ellen and Gary McCall of Warner Robins, Georgia, Nelda Sue and Don Butler of Eatonton, Georgia, and Bridgette Elaine and Steve Elgi of Warner Robins; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rex and Na Devane and Alan Devane all of Valdosta; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn Sedgwick of Blairsville, Georgia and Jerri Brown of Bridgeboro, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Edward Devane and Webster Howell Hendley; two sons, Glenn Devane and Edward Devane.
A graveside service for Hazel Devane Hendley will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Charles Barden and Rev. Lonnie Grant officiating. A family procession will leave from Carson McLane Funeral Home to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday at 9:30 a.m. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
