Harvey Stanford Griffin, 81, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Fort Lauderdale, FL to the late William Howard and Carrie Mae Kelly Griffin, Mr. Griffin graduated from Hahira High School, Class of 1941. He had lived in Valdosta since 1965. Mr. Griffin was a veteran of the Army during WWII and earned two Bronze Stars for Valor in the European Theater of Operations. He was a farmer, worked at ITT Metal Products, Owens-Illinois Bag Division and was involved in Real Estate Investments. Mr. Griffin was an avid gardener and “green thumb”, and he and his wife Margie, were twice awarded Yard of the Month by the Valdosta Garden Club. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Hahira; he was also a regular contributor to many local and national charities, and a former Deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church. <br>Survivors include his best friend and wife of 53 years, Margie Lou Griffin, of Valdosta, three sons and two daughters in law, David & Judy Griffin, of Acworth, John Griffin of Macon, and George & Marylou Griffin of Athens; two grandsons, Jason Griffin, and Mark Griffin both of Acworth; three granddaughters, Sarah Griffin, Charlotte Griffin, and Allison Griffin, all of Athens; a great granddaughter, Payton Griffin, of Kennesaw; and a great grandson, Zachary Griffin of Athens. Also surviving are a sister and brother in law, Sarah & Drew Suttles, of Tucker; a brother, Harold Griffin, of Kingston; a sister in law, Peggy Griffin of Athens; a brother in law, Charles Folsom of Hogansville; a sister in law and her husband, Dorothy & Liston Bennett of Daytona Beach, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.<br>Funeral Services for Mr. Griffin will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday March 6, 2005 at Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Don Smith will officiate. Pallbearers for the service are Robert Wesley Donegan, James Wade Griffin, Jason Haynes Griffin, Mark Alan Griffin, Joseph David Krull, Allen Dee Morris, John Anthony Rodriguez-Feo, and David Harrison Suttles. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira. The family will receive friends at the funeral home in Valdosta on Saturday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 5064 Bethany Road, Hahira, GA 31632.
