Harry D. Farmer, 68, of Valdosta died Monday, February 27, 2017 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born in Valdosta on February 11, 1949 to the late John C. and Estelle Redish Farmer and was a lifelong resident of Valdosta. He was saved and baptized in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and a member of the Redland Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1968-1970 in Vietnam. Mr. Farmer, a Vietnam Veteran in combat and received several combat awards and metals and had several articles in the papers for his 39th and 60th divisions and their bravery. He was retired from ConWay Express and was also a farmer and a logger. He was loved by everyone who knew him and was known as Dirty Harry on his CB Handle.
Mr. Farmer was the sweetest husband, father, grandfather and friend anyone could have. He loved the outdoors, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson Trike Motorcycle, cars and RV Camping in Florida. He loved grilling and cooking for a crowd.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Gwenette Shaw Farmer, his son, Harry Kenyon Farmer, his daughter and son in law, Tammie Gwenette and Kenneth Welch all of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Michael Douglas Browning, Alyssa Kathlynn Browning, Austin Levi Farmer, Allison Gwenette Moore, Mary Elizabeth Farmer, Shane Welch, Danny Welch; sisters and brothers in law, Ruby and Melvin Lastinger of Valdosta, Jeanette Parkman of Augusta, Carolyn and Jack O. Howell of Valdosta; his brother and sister in law, Wayne and Gloria Farmer of Trusby, AL; special and best friends, Larry and Faye Black of Valdosta; many nieces, nephews and many loved friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, March 3, 2017 at the Redland Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Gay, Rev. Tommy Bussey and Rev. Jay Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
