Harold Arthur Root

Harold Arthur Root, 87, of Valdosta, Passed away on August 14, 2017. Born on November 2, 1929 to the late Harold Allen and Ruth Elizabeth (Matthews) Root. Harold was very proud to have served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. A graduate of Middletown Business College with a degree in accounting, he climbed the corporate ladder across the nation and finally retired from Capitol Metals as their Comptroller. He was a member of Clan Matheson, and enjoyed researching his Scottish ancestry and history. He had a lifelong interest in Native American culture and history as well as war strategy and history, particularly the Civil War. He was a devoted husband to his late wife Naomi Jeanne Stevens Root, who preceded him in death. Harold was a member of First Baptist Church, Valdosta.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Karen Lynne Root and Steven Savitsky of Valdosta; son and daughter in law, Eric Kent and Marian Root of Huntington, WV; grandson, Matthew Root Savitsky of New York, NY.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Root on Monday, August 28th at 6pm at First Baptist Church, 200 W. Central Ave, Valdosta, GA 31601 with Dr. Charles Owens and Ron Hatchett officiating. Harold and Naomi will be interred at Bushnell-Florida Military Cemetery on Tuesday, August 29th at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
