Hardy Lee Smith, 81, of Valdosta died on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on August 6, 1934 in Fort Myers, Florida to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Smith. Mr. Smith was a retired Tech Sergeant from the United States Air Force and served during both the Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. He also retired from Lowe's where he was a warehouse manager. He had also worked with Clyde Miller Electric for many years. Mr. Smith was a giving man of his time, talent, heart, and spirit. He never met anyone in need that he did not supply them with what they needed. His kind and compassionate nature was well known by all who knew him and those attributes inspired others to be like him. He loved his Lord, his family, his friends, his country, and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Johnnie Smith of Valdosta; son and daughter-in-law, Hardy Jr., and Bev Smith of Columbus, Mississippi; two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Bobby Peterson of Oxnard, California, and Chris and Wendell Rentz of Columbus, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Lyn Smith of Albany, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Johnny Harrelson of Valdosta; eight grandchildren and spouses, Tracy and Russell Stewart of Texas, Eric and Megan Smith of Ray City, Georgia, Wendy and Chuck Silverthorn of Columbus, Georgia, Ashley and Jimy Seward of Pensacola, Florida, Jason and Paige Smith of Lake Park, Rikki Smith of Leesburg, Georgia, Drew Harrelson, and Cortney Harrelson both of Valdosta; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Smith of Tampa, Florida and Butch Miller of Tallahassee, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 7 brothers and sisters.
Services for Hardy Lee Smith will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Nelligan, Rev. Allen McDougald, and Bro. Mike Royals officiating. The burial will follow in the Dasher Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
