Hal C. Phillips, Sr., 87, of Valdosta died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Valdosta on May 15, 1927 to the late Chester Newell and Mildred Elizabeth Giddens Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a retired Conductor from Norfolk Southern Railways, a United States Navy veteran, a member of Ousley Baptist Church and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Phillips of Valdosta, his daughter in law, Gwynn Phillips Poole of Valdosta, two grandsons, Andrew Joseph Phillips (Ashley) of Edgewater, FL and Dustin Matthew Phillips (Hannah) of Valdosta, his adopted grandchildren, Lyndsay Metzger (Kacey), Jacob Phillips, John Phillips and Robert Phillips, four great grandchildren, Logan Andrew Phillips, Rylee Phillips, Annabelle Metzger and Ella Phillips, his special friend, Millie J. Chitwood of Valdosta and his brother and sister in law, Austin and Hilda Phillips of Guntersville, AL. Mr. Phillips is preceded in death by two sons, Frederick A. Phillips and Hal C. Phillips, Jr. and a sister Betty J. Phillips.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at eleven a. m. at Ousley Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Clyde Stokes and Reverend Clarence Rolling officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a. m. until service time.
