. H. Wayne Bius, 77, of Valdosta, died Wednesday, December 10, 2014. He died of a sudden illness at South Georgia Medical Center while surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Doerun, Georgia, on April 23, 1937, he was the eldest son of the late Vernon "Slim" and Merle Bius. A graduate of Doerun High School, he completed his two-year degree at Norman Junior College in 1957. He later earned his designation as a Chartered Life Underwriter from the American College in 1977. During his time at Norman Junior College, he met Billi Fae Lewis, whom he married in June 1960. He began a lifelong commitment to serving alongside Billi in the communities in which they lived, the churches where they placed membership, and raising a family. Mr. Bius was an insurance professional for 54 years as an agent, district manager, and licensing and continuing education instructor. Mr. Bius also served as a Sergeant and M-48 Patton Tank Crew Commander in the 48th Armored Brigade of the Georgia National Guard from 1959 to 1965. Along with his wife, Wayne taught young married Sunday school classes, youth groups, started the Singles Ministry at Northside Baptist Church in Valdosta, and served on the missions committee and made many short-term missions trips to Reno, NV. At the time of his death, Mr. Bius was a deacon and Sunday School Director for the Senior Adult Sunday School class at Northside.
Mr. Bius was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Billi Fae Lewis Bius, and his mother and father, Vernon "Slim" and Merle Bius, his mother and father-in-law, Wilburn and Collie Lewis, and his sister-in-law Carol Lewis Bailey.
He is survived by his twin daughters, Lesli Bius of Valdosta and Lorna Bius of Denver, CO; two sons, Jonathan Bius (Christy) of Parkton, NC, and Joel Bius (Leigh) of Hattiesburg, MS, grandchildren Robert Bius of San Antonio, TX, and Melissa Bius of Parkton, NC, and Jake Bius and Brooks Bius of Hattiesburg, MS; siblings Wanda Greene (Wallace) of Valdosta, Larry Bius (Gwen) of Albany, GA., Don Bius (Bridgette) of Tampa, FL, and Gwyned Bius of Tucker, GA; nieces and nephews Wendy (Mark) Kozma of Atlanta, Tracy (Phillip) Jones of Valdosta, Candace (Levi) Pickett of Atlanta, Valerie Bius of Jacksonville, FL, Patrick (Kelli) Bius of Moultrie, and Blayne Bius of Atlanta.
He cherished his place in the Lewis family of Norman Park, GA, in-laws Clay Bailey of Knoxville, TN, Nan (Laurice) Coan of Villa Rica, GA; Steve (Pat) Lewis of Oxford, MS, and Vince (Lisa) Lewis of Thomasville, GA; as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves many dearly loved couples and singles from the Singles Ministry whom he was so proud to love and serve.
The family will receive friends at Northside Baptist Church Friday, Dec. 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, December 13, at Northside Baptist Church. Rev. Douglas Reddick, Rev. Michael Lewis, Rev. Robbie Foster, Rev. Rick Williams, and Rev. Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
