Joe Kendrick died January 13, 2017 at his Tallahassee home after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 24, 1938 to the late Harry E. and Willouise Lawson Kendrick. Joe is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maxine Tillman Kendrick; children, Robert Kendrick (Renea) and Jennifer Sasser (Kenneth); two grandchildren, Ashley Sasser and John Sasser and Alexia Solis.
Joe had the ideal childhood growing up in the small town of Hahira, Georgia where he was able to walk to his grandfather's funeral home, distribute the local movie flyers for free passes to the Saturday matinees, ride his horse to school, and be part of a small group of children who attended kindergarten through high school together.
During his 30 year career with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement he held several positions; the last was as curriculum coordinator for law enforcement training. He was also a crime scene investigator for the Duval County Sheriff's Department in the mid 1960's.
Joe excelled in sports during his school years and later became an avid golfer. He was on the links at Killearn Country Club several times a week and enjoyed playing different courses with the BBS.
Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family.
A private family graveside service will be held at Friendship Cemetery in Hahira on Monday, January 16th, 2017 at 3 P.M.
