Gwendolyn "Gwen" Parrish Alligood

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Parrish Alligood, 81, of Hahira, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021. She was born in Irwin County, GA on August 10, 1940, to the late Henry Wesley Parrish and Ruby Vashti Snellgrove Parrish. She grew up in Fitzgerald and graduated from Fitzgerald High in the late 1950’s. She met her husband Doug in high school and they were married in 1959 at Salem Baptist Church. The family moved to Hahira in the early 1970’s. She worked for Family and Children’s Services in Lowndes County until she retired in 2004. Her primary loves were her children, family, and serving in her church. In the 1970’s Gwen and Doug became active members of Pineview Baptist Church where they remained for 30 years, and then in the early 2000’s they joined Hahira First Baptist Church.
Gwen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Patrick Collier, of Jacksonville, FL; daughter Vicky Walker, of Jacksonville, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Brittany Alligood, of Nashville, GA; her grandchildren, Will Slaton (Sarah), Tanya Hassel, Savannah Barfield, Aaron Alligood, and Ana Grace Alligood; her great grandchildren, Sadie Kay Slaton, Tiffany Walker, and Abby Pyle; and three sisters, Betty Parrish Hickman, Rachel Holton, and Ruth Moorehead. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doug Alligood, sister, Vashti Hobbs, and brothers, Earnest Parrish, Wesley Parrish, Jimmy Parrish.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at Martin McLane Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Ray Turner officiating. Burial will be at 4:30 pm at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2pm at the funeral home.
