Grover Hudson Carter II, 79, of Valdosta and Gloucester, MA, passed away on February 13, 2016 at South Georgia Medical Center following a prolonged illness. He was born in Miami, FL on February 22, 1936 to the late Grover Hudson Carter, Sr. and Edna Ruby Peeples Carter. Mr. Carter divided his time between South Georgia and Massachusetts where he owned and operated his seasonal restaurant, The Cupboard Restaurant, for over 52 years. He was an accomplished chef and astute businessman and will be remembered for his extreme generosity to his friends and family. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Clyattville Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and also a fan of the New England Patriots and Florida State University.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cynthia Ann Carter of Valdosta and Gloucester, MA; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Grover Hudson III and Pam Carter of Valdosta, Joshua R. Carter of Waltham, MA; two grandsons, Hudson L. Carter and Noah A. Carter, both of Valdosta; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Edna Carter of Echols County; special niece, Twyla Selph and family of Valdosta; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Carter was preceded in death by two sisters, Theda Chaney and Charlotte Dickerson Smith.
Graveside services for Grover Hudson Carter, II will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Lake Park Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation, however the family will receive friends at the cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or you may make a donation to a charity of your choice.
