Grady Harris Mixon, Army Airborne Veteran and lifelong mechanic, passed away at his home in Valdosta on Monday, June 19, 2023. A Valdosta native, Grady was born on August 22, 1945, to the late William Harris Mixon and Virginia Conine Mixon. In his early career he worked on racing cars. Grady enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of Western movies and television shows, but his favorite show was “Mash”. He was a Christian of the Baptist faith.
Survivors are Ms. Joyce Mixon, a very special friend of Fargo; his daughters, Melissa (Michael) Davis and Virginia Mixon of Valdosta, stepsons, Lawrence (Wanda) Williams of Homerville, Darrell Williams of Fargo; grandchildren, Sarah Davis , J.T. Davis, Ashley Bargeron, Abigail Mixon; Rebecca (Ethan) Guess and Lee Williams of Homerville, great grandchildren, Alexander Shackelford and Jed Guess of Homerville; brother, Chris Mixon of Valdosta, sister, Mary (Gene) Wynn of Jasper, Florida
Grady was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene Smith Mixon and two brothers, Eric Mixon, Julian Stephens, sisters, Barbara Beck, Susan McNew, stepfather, Ellis Stephens, stepmother, Edna Mixon.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home. A burial will follow at the Lake Park City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. www.mclane cares.com. The services for Mr. Mixon have been entrusted to McLane Funeral and Cremation Services.
