Grace H. Brooks, 88 lifetime resident of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at a local nursing home after a brief illness. Born on January 22, 1917 in Abbeville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Amanda Christopher Hughes and the widow of Carl Brooks of Valdosta. She was a retired spinner at Strickland Cotton Mill and a member of Gateway Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Carl (Buddy) Brooks of Valdosta; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a brother, Edward Hughes of Albany; and sisters, Mary Helen Burger of Moultrie, Marie Hatcher of Florida and Clyde Franklin.
Funeral services for Grace H. Brooks will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Rose of Sharon Cemetery in Moultrie. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
